Here in Florida, we are all familiar with hurricanes and we have all seen the damage that they bring. Many homeowners prepare their home for a hurricane with generators on stand-by, boarding up doors & windows and bringing their patio furniture in doors. Many homeowners didn’t know that they can actually prepare their roof for a hurricane as well. The winds and rains that a hurricane brings are bound to cause some damage to your roof so why not protect your roof just as much as the rest of your home.
1. Schedule an inspection – have your roof inspected prior to hurricane season to be aware of any weak points in your roof system. Having the inspection done prior to hurricane season also gives plenty of time to have any needed repairs completed and you can relax knowing your roof is as strong as it should be. Call Suncastle Roofing to schedule your inspection.
2. Trim nearby trees – Trees can cause hundreds of dollars’ worth of damage to a roof or building. Removing any dead or weak trees can prevent them from falling onto your roof. Trimming any large trees and/or tree limbs growing over or close to a roof can prevent limbs from blowing onto roofs during high winds and can prevent the limbs from continuously rubbing against shingles which could result in loosening of shingles.
3. Maintain Insurance and Warranties – Looking over your Insurances prior to a hurricane is a great way to reassure yourself that you and your home are protected. Taking photos of your home prior to a hurricane is a helpful way for insurance companies to process your claims quicker should you have to file a claim for storm damage. Be sure to note any applicable warranties to know exactly what you are covered for and it also gives homeowners plenty of time to add any additional coverage they might need.
