There can be many different reasons why a roof repair would be needed, some causes can be obvious and some not so obvious. Here at Suncastle Roofing were here to help educate homeowners of the causes that you may not know about.
1. Condensation in the attic – when hot and/or humid air is trapped in an attic it can cause mold & mildew to grow and you may notice this issue because of the smell that may be coming from your attic. If you smell a strong and musty odor coming from your attic it may be a good idea to get your roof inspected for any possible roof damage or leaks.
2. Clogged gutters – gutters are a very important part of a roofing system because they aid in allowing water to flow away from the roof. When your gutters are clogged, the water that is to be traveling away from your roof is trapped and has no where to flow, thus resulting in water being able to seep through tiny cracks in the roof resulting in possible roof leaks or worse.
3. Valley is not properly sealed – a valley is an area of the roof where to planes of roof meet and come together. If this area is not correctly sealed or installed, it then presents an opportunity for possible roof damage because of the roof being somewhat exposed. An exposed roof can lead to roof leaks, sagging roof and other dangerous roof damage.
4. Cracked Flashing – Flashing is a thin piece of metal that is installed underneath the shingles but over top of the roof joints to create a water-resistant barrier. Flashing is installed with a tar adhesive and just like any tar it will deteriorate over time with outside elements such as winds and rains. Once this tar adhesive is corroded enough over time, the flashing will no longer serve as the water-resistant barrier and will then allow water to seep through to the roof deck and could also cause other areas of your roof to become weak.
